Crackling Knee joint: Is It Due To Weak Bones? joints may make variety of noises especially few joints like osmall joints of finger and knee joint are more prone to it.
Reason of joint crackling or snapping is different depending on type of joint. However if not accompanied by pain at site or warmth or fever there is not much to worry and neither is due to any vitamin defeciency.
Hand joints or knuckle:
among all body joints there is fluid called as synovial fluid that help as lubricant and prevent friction and tearing of joints.Fluid also contain gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide . when ever such movement is done that stretches the joint . gas is rapidly released and crackling sound is heard.
Knee joint or anke joint:
mainly it is due to posture change as with change in posture tendon and ligament are displaced and at end of movement they snap back to original place.
also people who are engaged in excess excercise or unusual physical activity may have excess synovial fluid(joint fluid) production that with movement is distributed throughout the knee and may produce crackling as presurre of joint is already increased.
some people have by birth a bit lateral displacement of a small bone of knee joint(patella) they tend to have a crackling sound in postures like kneeling or stair climbing.
though tear in ligaments or tendon may be a cause of this snap but its associated with pain
arthritis may be a cause but its mostly with poor weight bearing capability or other symptoms and requires an X-ray.
crackling is normal of joints however if troublesome contact a physician |
