Homosexulaity is certainly against natural instincts and there has to be a psychological reason.  (its like you try to eat through your nose) Knowledge of Islam or lack of it has nothing to do with it. Islam also says don't do sex except with your wife.  Do we muslims with knowledge of Islam keep away from zina? no. Thats why Allah Tala gave us laws in addition to our faith. Because its human nature not faith, that tempts you to seek pleasure outside permissible limits.

Homosexuality is a problem and you should look for some help.   My humble advice to the gentlemen is to see a psychologist, try to think about female sex organs and i will even suggest he should see porno movies to get a natural sex drive. Hopefully, this will overcome his desire for sex with same gender.

Homosexuality is not a new phenomenon. During Loot (pbuh)'s time, it was there. Surely, Internet, Cable, Dish cannot be blamed for this. There were homosexual men and women before the invention of these electronic media. If it were the main reason, then as suggested all who watches pornographic material would turn out to be gay/lesbian if they don't have an opposite sex partner/wife available. Besides as Faisee mentioned that there is no religious/social taboo for having premarital sex in western nations, and sexual orientation of people have not changed.

The cause for homosexuality is an active field of research. So far, hormonal, genetic, environmental, social, physiological, neurological, and cultural issues have been implicated in the etiology of homosexuality, but no one factor can be put forth as single factor sufficient for development of homosexuality. This practice has been observed in nature (animals, birds, dolphins, etc) and none has an answer to why this occurs. There is strong evidence of genetic factor involved, as monozygotic twins have much higher concordance of homosexuality than dizygotic twins. But there is no simple answer.

The current trend in youth could be due to experimentation with this culture and they may have a homosexual orientation or may be they just want to show their peers and the society that are modern. This is then becomes a cultural influence, and perhaps media is as responsible as we (youth, parents, society, country...you just name what you like) are. As far as seeing a psychiatrist is concerned, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder does not label homosexuality as a disease/perversion/deviation, so ethically a psychiatrist cannot treat this, as it is not even considered a disease. 

I can understand why a person can be gay or lesbian, but I cannot understand the person with who he lives with. Because this person plays the role of the opposite sex, he is genetically and psychologically a hetersexual person. For example, if a gay man lives with another man, then the gay man plays the role of a woman, but the other man is a man in his mind. It is unclear why he choses a man over a woman.

For the time being, I think as Muslims, we can shun the practice of homosexuality based on our religious teachings, and leave these individuals at Allah's hands, unless we as a nation can come to a collective decision to allow/ban this practice. If we decide to ban this, then we must also need to address other evils of the society that deals with the issue of sex such as prostitution, honor killings, marrying more than one woman without doing justice to all, injustice towards women in general, and so on. Let us, who believe in the Unseen and have faith in Allah and His Prophet (pbuh), try to attain the highest level of "iman" and "taqwa", so that we can address these issues at national and global levels in a just way.
