What Is Epilepsy And Seizures? Epilepsy and Seizures: Definition
Epilepsy is the disorder
characterized by fits (seizures). Fits or seizures that results in epilepsy
happen due to the transient disturbance of the brain function. Epilepsy is a
common disorder through out the world.
Epilepsy and Seizures: Causes
The seizures in epilepsy starts
between the ages of 5-20 years and till so far no appropriate cause has been
established for these seizures that arrives in Epilepsy. However, few of the
following causes have been proposed in this regard:
```
Congenital Abnormalities, the
abnormalities that happens due to the faults in development of embryo inside
the mother’s uterus
```
Due to the with drawl of certain
substances and drugs, like alcohol etc.
```
Hyper and Hypoglycemia are the known
causes of Seizures but these seizures could be other than epilepsy, means these
seizures don’t come under the heading of Epilepsy.
```
Brain injury or trauma, especially
when the brain cells are damaged due to penetrating injuries.
```
Brain Tumor: Seizures in this
condition could happen in any age. Brain surgery could be indicated in such
conditions depending upon the type of tumor
```
Disease of the blood vessels in the
brain that may produce deficiency of oxygen
```
The diseases like Alzheimer’s
disease that may destroy the brain cells also produces seizures in certain
conditions
```
Different infections of brain like
bacterial infections, viral infections, meningitis etc causes seizures
Epilepsy
and Seizures: Treatment
This is a bitter truth that a
patient having epilepsy has to take medication for long time and even for the
life. The disease could be managed but there is no cure. On the contrary if the
seizures are happening due to certain reasons like due to infection, tumor etc.
then the seizures could be controlled after treating the cause and the
treatment would not be continued for life.
Epilepsy Medications And Impotence:
Yes! This is true that epilepsy
medications (Anti-epileptics) may generate impotence and the patient has to
take certain medications for impotence. Remember that the impotence related to
anti-epileptics is reversible and could be vanished once the treatment is over.
Unfortunately, the epileptic patient has to take these medicines for life
therefore; the impotence persists. The other way round is that the patient
could use some mechanical devices in order to over come the problem of
impotence. Like vacuum aids or Eric Aid, system could be used. There are other
prosthetic devices for impotence. For The details about these mechanical devices,
