Domestic Chemicals & Health Hazards
Always remember that all chemicals are fatal, only their fatal doses vary. I am listing below some domestic chemicals with their health hazards. - Sodium Chloride, commonly known as table salt. Excess intake of salts may lead to high blood pressure. If you are already a hypertension patient, minimize the intake of sodium chloride but never stop it. As our body requires a certain level of sodium in our blood. Like high concentration of sodium, very low level of sodium also causes hypertension. If you are a hypertension patient and fond of high-salt too than you can use alternate potassium chloride salt. It is also available in the market as the trade name of 'no-salt'.
- White processed Sugar: No any animal is as foolish as human being by eating white processed sugar. Other than human being, all other animals fulfill their sugar requirement by eating natural foods. We can avoid this sugar by having a balanced diet including fruits etc. If you are a diabetic patient and using sugar free sweeteners than first check its ingredients. As some sugar free sweeteners have sodium as well. Avoid such sweeteners, especially when you are a hypertension patient as well.
- Acids & Insecticides: Different types of chemicals and insecticides are being used to clean our toilets and killing insects at kitchen etc. Normally diluted hydrochloric acids are used to clean tiles, commodes etc and concentrated sulfuric acid to open choked drains. Acids and their vapors are very hazardous to our health. Always use rubber hand gloves and mask (or at least cover your face with cloths etc) while using these acids. Never store these acids at your home for next use. Similarly while spraying insecticides at your kitchen, covered all food and crockery items properly. And don't forget to cover your face to avoid any inhalation of vapors.
- Perfumes and Body Spray: All perfumes are normally alcohol based. Body deodorants vary greatly from brand to brand. A deodorant composition comprising a deodorizing compound chemically reactive with an odor component in the presence of moisture, and a water-absorbing substance, wherein the odor component is a compound having a carbonyl group; the deodorizing compound is at least one selected from the group consisting of monohydric phenols, polyhydric phenols, and derivatives thereof. Deodorant stones which are comparatively safe, non-sticky, non-staining deodorant are composed of Potassium Alum. Save your eyes and throat from vapors of these sprays while using them.
- Chemically Polluted Vegetables: Farmers spray different types of chemical or insecticides to save their crops. If vegetables are supposed to eat uncooked like salad etc then it must be thoroughly washed with flowing water before cutting. Also rinse washed vegetable items in hot water having some vinegar, which can kill germs etc.
- Synthetic Vinegar: It is originally diluted acetic acid. Hence if you can afford, avoid using synthetic vinegar and always try to use different natural vinegar instead.

does SHE know HSE HSE trained personnel are required to operate heavy industrial units having high potential hazards. Though we fulfill this practice at our work places but unfortunately we do not do the same at our homes. Because HSE, health-safety-environment untrained women are normally supposed to run a highly hazardous complex without taking any precautionary measure. I am talking about the risks widespread all over our kitchens. Do we ever prepare task risks assessment for our kitchens to save our property and lives of our beloved?
Kitchen covers a very little area and little attention as well. Perhaps we are unaware that water flooding, fatal suffocation and fire explosion can happen in our kitchen if unexpected and unattended leakages are erupted in water, power or fuel gas supply systems. All these systems are needed preventive maintenance periodically. Fuel supply line valve must be in closed position when fuel is not in use. Never trust on the closed valve of the equipment. Kitchen exhaust and light should always remain on. Spark proof and comparatively high quality electrical switches and connections should be used in kitchen to face excess heat and hot vapors. Try to avoid use of open live cables in the kitchen. Kitchen fumes exhaust and water drainage system should also be periodically inspected to avoid any sudden failure.
Our kitchens are now flooded with different types of electrical appliances. Our women are familiar with their operative functions only. Meetings should be conducted to familiarize them with potential hazards of each item separately. Loud reading of booklets provided by equipment manufacturer in such meeting will be off course rewarding. Risks involved in handling hot cooking apparatus, boiling water, pressure cookers, sharp knives and open fire should also be discussed in these meetings. Women working in a kitchen also require personal protective equipments. They need heat resistance gloves while handling live electrical or gas ovens. During vegetable cutting stage, a seed of green chilly was entered into a lady's eye recently. Transparent goggles (zero power) can be used to save eyes from harmful vapors and fine solid particles. Water and heat resistance aprons must be worn while dish washing and cooking respectively. It is also recommended to use full shoes instead of open sandles while working in the kitchen. Women should also avoid loose clothing like sarees, Dopattas and open hairs during their kitchen works.
Alternate chemical spray should be used to kill insects etc. By using of same chemicals repeatedly, insects become immune and spray does not work at all. Good house keeping doesn't only mean to clean. In HSE it means that there should be a proper and safe place for every thing and every thing should be kept back at their place. Grinded, crushed or ready-to-use raw food materials must be kept in refrigerator instead of kitchen cabinets. Kitchen wastebasket must be always covered. It should be emptied out and cleaned on daily basis. Separate basket should arrange for broken glassware and disposable items. Less than 5 years kids should be strictly banned and under 10 years kids should be discouraged to enter into the kitchen. A handy fire extinguisher, a small first aid box and an emergency eye wash station or arrangement are recommended for a safe kitchen.
Protect your love ones,
Think About kitchen Hazards.
Take Precautionary measures, use PPE.

PLASTIC BOTTLES...........POLLUTED FISH..........boiler chicken.. there are things to which i want to draw attention...
one of them has been on my mind a lot....
plastic bottles:
when i was a kid we always had glass bottles to store water in refrigerator and also all these squashes and drinks used to come in glass bottles...
problem with glass was that i was a bit costly and can break anywhere during transportation plus its processing is difficult
these days we have plastic bottles for mineral water, juices, drinks, squashes and even in our refrigerator...
plastic is the sort of substance that has the maximum sensitivity to temperature change...
its cancerous if the melted plastic is taken in....
what we do is we cool water in plastic bottle and then take with us at work a real potential hazard!!...this making it cold and warm n then keeping in cars for long hours and drinking from it.....all the toxic material is dissolved....
polluted fish :
unfortunately all of us know (common people) that vegie and fruits are grown up with hazardous pesticides...
but very less people know the fish we eat comes from water than has been polluted by industrial toxins...
this fish has lead and cadmium in it...
boiler chicken:
boiler is grown on food that contain steroids ..... and these when we eat gives us all the symptoms of all the health hazards....
increasing rate of infertility is also attributed to this...
the problem of acne , weight gain without overeating and decreased libido etc.... |

MSDS har achi multinational organisations apnay haaN zeray istemaal har chemical ki alag alag materia safety data sheet (MSDS) ka record rakhti hai aur within organisation har user k pass oskay zeray istemal chemical ka MSDS oskay pass nomayaa tareeqay say aawezaaN hota hai takay incase of emergency issay dekh sakay.
