Dates:Islamic and Medical aspects

Dates:  Islamic And Medical Aspects

Dates (Palmae dactylifere)/Khajoor

Most of the muslims following the sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) open their fast with dates

Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) is reported to have said: "if anyone of you is fasting, let him break his fast with dates. In case he does not have them, then with water. Verily water is a purifier."

Madically analyzing the advantage of opening fast with dates is When fasting, a person relies on the sugar stored  in his body . The sugar obtained from the food taken just before starting the fast that is at sehri lasts for six hours and then the body uses the sugar kept in the liver. When a person breaks his fast with dates, rich in easily digestable sugars, those arrive quickly to the liver and then to the blood which carries the nutrients to the other organs, if we taken any other food it will require 2-3 hours to get absorbed from intestines and reach blood….

Dates and date palms have been mentioned in the Holy Qur'an 20 times, thus showing their importance. The Prophet likened a good Muslim to the date palm, saying, "Among trees, there is a tree like a Muslim. Its leaves do not fall."

Medicine has shown that dates contain Phosphorous , a compound that makes bones stronger and dates boiled in milk given to the children of puberty age are known to be beneficial for sexual development ….

For Pregnant and breast Feeding Females….

Experiments have also shown that dates contain some stimulants that strengthen the muscles of the uterus in the last months of pregnancy.

This helps the dilation of the uterus at the time of delivery on one hand and reduces the bleeding after delivery on the other.

Dieticians consider dates as the best food for women in confinement and those who are breast-feeding.

This is because dates contain elements that assist in alleviating depression in mothers and enriching the breast-milk with all the elements needed to make the child healthy and resistant to disease.

Dates and the protection from poison and envy:

It was reported by Abu Naaim, Abu Daoud, Al Hakem, Al Imam Al Tarmithi and mentioned in The book of Al Imam Al Thahabi "The Prophetic Medicine" that the Prophet (PBUH) said: " The one who eats 7 dates in the morning will be protected that day from poison and envy"

Some of the researches have proven that people who work in lead industries and are exposed to metals….can be protected against toxic effect of metal via accumulation in body and effecting renal function by taking min7dates regularly….

A jewish researcher Goldman has shown that these dates compounds form complex with metals and render them soluble in body fluids to be excreted….

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: the prophet (PBUH) said: "Indeed in dates?? there is a cure". Reported by Muslim (14/3) and Ahmad (6/152)

For a number of conditions dates are found to be useful medically….it is due to number of active compounds and minerals in dates….which includes carbohydrates(glucose and fructose, vitamin B & d,phosphorus, calcium and rennin)

    1)   Help in the treatment of Anaemia thanks to their iron content
    2)   improves circulation as they contain iron
    3)  Treat constipation as they are rich in Fructose
    4)    Active against Allergy as they contain Zinc
    5)   Stop the haemorrhage during pregnancy they contain vitamin K and Tannin
that acts as a contracting agent
    6)   Can be used in renal failure as they contain vitamins B1, B2& B6 and
        fructose
    7)  Prevent dizziness and fainting due to provision of instant energy by dates

    8) one kgs of date is supposed to have 3000 calories so those who are thin and         lean it's a healthy food to gain weight

    9) because of  presence of carotene its considered beneficial for vision and preventing night-blindness

Preferable Combinations to use dates for some particular conditions:

To relieve Constipation…

They should be immersed in water at night and taken after making them into a fine syrup the next morning….provide a roughage to increase sluggish movements of gut..

Sexual weakness due to functional Cause:

Sexual weakness can also benefits from dates. A handful of dates soaked in fresh goat's milk overnight should be ground in the same milk in the morning. A pinch of cardamom powder(eelaichi) and honey should be mixed in this preparation…..is experimented to increase sex stamina….

Vision Protection:

Milk and dates especially when taken together are beneficial for eye sight….

Indeed dates are not only a wholesome food but also useful in prevention of certain diseases…

surat al-rehman(ayat 11-13)

It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures

Wherein are fruit and sheathed palm-trees

Therein is fruit and palms having sheathed clusters

Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates);

Husked grain and scented herb.

And the grain with (its) husk and fragrance

Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاء رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

goat milk vs cow milk

yes ofcourse milk is milk...but here i will want to mention a few point......

mostly through out the world in cities cow milk has been used....now for past some years world over but especially in UK goat milk is being promotted....

here are few reasons to it

though goat milk has 10g fat in 8ounces and cow milk has 8-9g fat but the goat milk fat is found to be the easily digested type...and more good for intestines as does not form complexes there and prevent stool delayed passage due to fat

also the type of fat in goat milk has more the amount of essential fatty acids needed by the body rather than just the usual fat

the proteins in any milk form curd in stomach or u may say a thick compound when stomach acid act on protein of milk...the curd formed by goat milk is again easily digestable....

goad milk has very less even less than 1percent of allergic substances....

both cow and goat milk have vitamins and minerals.....but goat has13percent more calcium,25percent more vit B6,47percent more vitA....

now why preferrable here goat milk is mentioned that goat milk has Selinium , an anti-oxidant that is substance that improves immunity and improves body defence......27-34percent more than cow milk...........so good against functional diseases...

medical condition and dates

Can we use dates for the treatment of medical conditions which you have mentioned in your article;

Generally we use treatment other than dates, can you explain why we don't use dates for the treatment of such condition ..... like

    9) because of  presence of carotene its considered beneficial for vision and preventing night-blindness

pakbrain....

mostly due to lack of knowledge...

if a person is anemic mostly girls are .... and if not extremely anemic like chance of complications is there then first thing is dietry modification like we say meat has highest haemoglobin fine but along with it green vegetables , dates ,pluses are to be recommended.....none of the food itself and only itself will improve the situation...combinations are required....

for weight gain always n always dates are recommended even by the specialists...

similiar dizziness and fainting etc if one is feeling all this even if u take one piece of date u will urself feel much better...

after opening iftar if one or two pieces of dates do give instant energy , feeling of fullness and ennergy boost.....Prophet (PBUH) have been reported by Sahabah that even used to open fast with one date at times...

similar is case for other situations.....if diet modification is asked for any medical condition 2 things are require

1)long term use

2)effective quantity....
