There are three very important components of a high quality weight gain diet: carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

CARBOHYDRATES Cooking is essential for the proper digestion of starch. It helps in the breaking of cell walls in vegetables and this helps digestion of protein present in them. Cooked starch is digested more readily than raw starch.

FATS Cooking under normal household conditions has very little effect on fats, but prolonged heating as in frying destroys a part of essential fatty acids.

PROTEINS Moderately cooked proteins are easily digested than raw proteins. Severe heat processing such as roasting, baking and frying will have adverse effect on nutritive value of proteins of certain cereals, oilseeds and mammal food. The nutritive value of proteins of legumes is improved to a considerable extent as a result of heat processing.

These three elements are crucial for a successful weight gain diet. We normally believe that a weight gain diet consists of thousands of carbohydrates, and maybe some amount of fat.

However, it is very important to remember that protein is crucial in this process. A high protein weight gain diet will help you, not only gain weight, but to build muscle.
